Lemon Detox Diet – What You Need to Know

The Lemon Detox Diet is known under various aliases, you may have heard it called The Master Cleanse, The Maple Syrup Diet, The Lemon Cleanse or The Cayenne Pepper Diet amongst others.

The detox is a full body detox that needs to be undertaken for a minimum of ten days to achieve maximum results although many find this incredibly difficult. It is a liquid based diet and you do not consume any food whilst you are on the cleanse.

The daily routine starts with a salt water flush to flush out the toxins from your colon. Then you consume between six and twelve glasses of the cleanse throughout the day. The cleanse is a mixture of freshly squeezed lemons, maple syrup, spring water and cayenne pepper. Finally before retiring, you are required to drink a natural herbal laxative tea.

The Lemon Detox was initially created by a man called Stanley Burroughs and at the time he was looking for a natural way to cure stomach ulcers. After using the cleanse on numerous patients, there were lots of other benefits discovered and many more illnesses cured. After this Burroughs then called it the Master Cleanser as he felt that it was the ‘master’ amongst detoxes with the highest amount of benefits.

The benefits of the lemon detox are numerous from a surge in energy to quick weight loss. The lemon detox can also address problems such as high blood pressure and various allergies. Many people report that their doctors are amazed when they return for a check up after being on the cleanse and as a result medication is withdrawn or lowered in dosage considerably.

The worst part of the lemon detox is on day 3 when you can suffer from caffeine withdrawal headaches or migraines. You may also feel incredibly tired and maybe even a little nauseous. This is just your body adapting to the cleanse and beginning to mobilize the toxins that have built up in the body over the years. Once you get past this stage it all becomes a lot easier and you will start to enjoy and embrace it.

Recently there have been celebrities like Beyonce drawing attention to the Lemon Detox as she claims to have lost about one and a half stone whilst on the cleanse in preparation for her role in Dream Girls. Whilst the detox is a great way to shift some quick lbs, it won’t stay off after the cleanse is complete unless you follow a healthy diet full of raw foods, nuts, seeds and low fat foods.

On average a woman can lose up to 1lb a day on the cleanse and a man can lose up to 2lb a day. This may not happen at all within the first couple of days and depending on how long you stay on the cleanse, you may also hit a plateau at some point too.

If you can do ten days on the Lemon Detox then your body will thank you for it. You can expect to have glowing skin, lots of energy, glossy hair, a feeling of sheer happiness that normally kicks in around day 8, and a much slimmer waistline.

Many people continue on the cleanse past ten days on a regular basis. Some will do twenty one days and others will do around forty and it’s completely safe to do this if you do it correctly. One woman went for 372 days but that really isn’t advisable although she said she felt wonderful.

Listen to your body and if it’s your first cleanse stick to the ten days. You can always do a cleanse every three to four months so you don’t need to cram it all in one go.
